Three Ring improv is…
Rorschach Pattern 9 (Juneau, AK)
Scared Scriptless Improv (Anchorage, AK)
Mike Brown’s Solo Improv Extravaganza (New York, NY)
Rorschach Pattern 9 makes sense out of nonsense… and vice versa. Juneau based Mike Christenson and Eric Caldwell take their skills in improv, beat poetry, Dada, and clown, throw them into a blender and see what comes out. Eric created the three ring improv concept and we’re bringing it to Anchorage with his help.
Scared Scriptless Improv
Alaska’s longest running improv troupe keeps bringing the funny, just as they have since 2000! You’ll get to see Scared Scriptless perform some long form improv in this three ring improv. This format differs from our usual short form offering in that we only get one audience suggestion and a 30 minute set based off that one word!
Mike Brown’s Solo Improv Extravaganza
Let’s be honest. The Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza is pretty much like any other improv troupe that you’ll discover along life’s path…with one exception: the show is completely improvised by one person. That’s right, improv fans! An entire improv troupe has just been reduced to a single person, which means that all characters discovered in the scene are portrayed through the eyes of one improviser.
The show started in 2009 when a small group of Mike’s friends planted the thought of doing a solo improv show in his head. After successfully testing it out at The PIT’s “Improdome” in NYC, Mike continued playing with this form around New York, as well as various festivals throughout the United States, until the “Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza” was conceived and a new genre was reinvented. www.soloimprov.com
Box Office at the door opens at 7:00 pm the night of the show.

(aka: Playing with Yourself!)
Ensemble improv takes balls. We all know that. The ability to get up in front of an audience and create something out of nothing is nothing short of a mixture of guts and skill. But what about doing it all by yourself?
Solo Improv slightly turns the tables on what you already know about long form improv. For one, you are in complete control. If you want to set yourself up for a game move, you can do it. It’s all about taking your time on stage and facing the greatest fear that we know as improvisers: silence.
In this workshop, you will confront many fears you may already have about improv like silence on stage, thinking for your scene characters (notice I didn’t say scene partner. That would be you), and the development of characters in the moment. Plot and story lines will also be dabbled in (taboo, I know), along with a few new forms you may not be use to.
Previous improv experience: intermediate
Date: Saturday October 19th
Location: Snow Goose – Pit (717 W 3rd Ave, Anchorage, AK)

Mike began his comedy career in 2005 as a Philadelphia Phillies “Phanstormer,” performing on-field sketches for the crowd. He founded The Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza and was a member of improv teams “Trapper John”, “Robot Junkie”, and “Ha-Prov”. He currently performs two-prov with “God’s Little Atheist” and “Brown Ronnie”.
He studied improv at The People’s Improv Theater (The PIT) and The Magnet Theater in New York, and has taught improv at The University of Oxford, The University of California at Berkeley, John Jay College, and guest lectured at The Living Room Lecture Series at Lincoln Square. Mike currently coaches 10,000 hours practice sessions, a privately opererated improv coaching program associated closely with the PIT.
Earlier this year Mike filmed a commercial in NYC for Intel, has previously appeared on Gossip Girl, Law & Order, Cupid, and Mercy, and has performed domestically in the Red Rocks Improv Festival, the Alaska State Improv Festival, Improvaganza: The Hawaii Festival of Improv, The Boston Comedy Arts Festival, The Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival, Unscripted New York, The North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, The Del Close Marathon, and the NYC Improv Festival, and internationally at the Barcelona Improv Group International Festival, The Toronto Improv Festival, The Bush Live Theater in London, and The Merlin Theater in Budapest, Hungary. He believes that live comedy should be enjoyed with friends and he attributes his love of comedy to his father. www.soloimprov.com
